Oral Health Programs

Kids in Need of Dentistry (KIND) and a reduced-fee clinic

Handing out toothbrushes Cambodia World Family began its oral health program in 1997. At that time, the focus of the project was on rural villagers-men, women and children who needed acute dental care. At that time, the program was significantly limited in what treatments could be provided. Today, the Cambodia World Family's Kids in Need of Dentistry or KIND Program has emerged as the leading organization in Cambodia providing dental services. Over the years, the focus has changed and is now on orphans, street children, dump kids and young children who live in deep poverty. Dental services are provided at the orphanages and centers not only around Phnom Penh but in outlying areas, as well. Each year CWF provides over 7,000 dental treatments (exams, fluoride treatments, sealants, extractions, scalings and prophylaxis, SSC, silver and white fillings and pulpotomies) for 1,400 children.

teeth cleaning Recently CWF was able start its own dental clinic which is located in the CWF Headquarters office in Takhmau. This is a reduced-fee for service clinic with 2 modern chairs. Here the patients include adults and children who reside in the Takhmau and northern Kandal Province area who live in poverty. This clinic is full service. The money collected from the clinic helps pay for supplies, continuing education and salaries of the dental staff involved with the KIND Program.
